Tutu Designs With Dimensional Style

Traditional, Royal, Yet Modern And Fresh Design

Velvet fabric is aristocratic, rich and regal. Airbrushing is modern and fresh . Combine the two and what do you get? The most visually appealing kind of stage drama for a classical ballet tutu design.

The play of dark bodice fabric above the two-toned airbrushed tutu skirt makes this ballet costume dimensional and so interesting to look at. It draws attention  to itself in very artistic ways. The eye is drawn to the dancer’s waist by the rich, red color of the perfectly fitted bodice contrasting with the pure white of the inner tutu skirt. Wow. I must say this is  a stunner  of a color combination. Pure impact in every sense of the word.

Dimensional Tutu Decorating Extraordinaire by Costume Creations UK

Professional ballet couture designers like Monica Newell of Costume Creations U.K., know exactly how much to add and where exactly to place the trims on a ballet costume so there is neither too much nor too little in the way of  embellishments. They have a special knack for what I call “icing the cake”. Only their cake happens to be stunningly gorgeous  ballet tutus that are made exclusively as couture by appointment.

It can take years  of experimentation to learn how to properly “apply the icing” for a professional looking costume each and every time. The classical tutu design above has a beautiful play of textures, colors and meandering embellishment patterns that make it a complete winner in the costume design world.

As usual, this costume style has nothing but the best examples of what makes watching a ballet performance so beautiful, interesting and awe-inspiring.  Imagine a corps of dancers in lovely airbrushed tutu skirts in something like the Shades Variations. Gorgeous! Let the show begin…….

“You translate paint to fabric, somebody gets into it and the ballet begins.” -Alain Vais

Tutu Couture-The Art Of Costume Design

When I hear the word couture, I picture the upscale boutiques of downtown Paris where fabulously wealthy women go to have their high-society ball gowns custom-made. The finest of fashion magazines show glossy photographs of models wearing haute couture clothing.  This unique clothing can come with hefty couture prices as well. To understand why couture can be costly we must first find out what couture design is all about.

What Does Couture Mean?

The word couture is a French word that can be defined as:

  1. The business of designing, making, and selling custom-made clothing
  2. A group of dressmakers and fashion designers
  3. The high-fashion garments  created by a designer

Not only is couture created in the fashion industry, but in the ballet costuming business as well.

How Is Couture Different From Other Designs?

The very meaning of couture implies a garment that is first created in the designer’s mind and then made into a garment for just that person. It may be a single garment which would make it an original, or it could be a basic pattern for a collection. Experienced garment couturier’s can easily come up with specific designs based on their history of working with clients.

Garments that are not couture are machine-made in factories on assembly lines. The sizes are general and there are no variations. It doesn’t take long to figure out that some non-couture clothing styles just don’t work with every single body shape.

Women who have short legs and long torso’s may have a hard time finding the proper bathing suit. Others with wide shoulders and narrow hips may have  trouble finding a flattering dress.  Different than average measurements make many women run out and buy a sewing machine to adjust their clothing.

Hand Sewing And Home Sewing Projects Are Labor Intensive

Have you ever tried to make yourself a beautiful dress using a pattern?  By the time you oil and thread the machine, pick out the fabric, trims, buttons, zippers, iron out the pattern, cut out the pattern, pin the pattern, mark the pattern, shoo the pets away from the pattern and then sew a bit, measure a bit and then sew a bit more days have gone by.

All of this labor is what makes couture or hand-crafted work more costly. In my opinion, they deserve it. Unless you have been up to your ears with home-sewing projects, it may be hard to understand the work and time involved in making a professional-looking garment.

Tutu couture is the process of custom-making a tutu design especially for the needs of dancer. Every unique and wonderfully designed classical tutu made by Costume Creations.UK  is 100%  Couture.

Classical Tutu Design For Dance Competitions

Every year, thousands of hopeful, young ballet students enter dance competitions. These young dancers need all the edge they can get to compete for the winning spot. That includes having a flattering, well-fitted dance costume that functions perfectly on stage.

Can you imagine how nervous and excited a dancer must feel when she is preparing to dance in a competition? Not only does she have to rehearse her part until her ballet technique is near perfection, but her appearance will be judged as well. That can be quite a lot of pressure for a young dancer!

Experienced ballet costume designers are used to working with dance competition students and do much to alleviate nervousness over appearance. The young, beautiful ballerina in the photo above made a wise choice to have her competition tutu designed by Costume Creations.

Everything comes together as far as design to give this ballerina a great start to winning a competition. Notice the impeccable fit of the bodice on this dancer. Every seam on the bodice is placed to enhance natural curves giving her a  beautiful shape. The embellishment placement on the bodice and tutu skirt give what I call the “magical” effect. There is never too much nor too little embellishment on the most regal of ballet costumes. Experienced designers have that “magic” touch with embellishments.

Combined with the magical appearance of her costume, and her ballet technique, the young ballerina in the photo above won a bronze medal in her dance competition. Mom must have been proud. Congratulations!
