Bodice Trim Design-Applying The Magical Touches

Applying trims to dance costumes can take a bit of pre-planning if you want the trim to lay flat, follow curves correctly, and confirm to the right shape on either side of the dancer’s body. More importantly, the chosen design has to have visual impact.

If you look closely at the trim design on this classical ballet costume bodice, you will notice that the silver floral trim stops, starts, and curves at certain places along the bodice. Placing the trim this way gives it the illusion of a wild vine of silvery flowers growing along just like they do in nature. How lovely! It is these tiny designer details that can add up to one fabulous ballet costume.

All costume designers are artists first and foremost. It takes an artist to create, re-create, and mimic the looks of nature and inject that special magic onto the costumes that they design. There seems to be quite a lot of magic happening in the design studio of Costume Creations!

Custom Made Classical Tutu-Splendor In White

This lovely white classical tutu is now finished  and waiting patiently for the dancer to bring to it to life. To me, there is something magical about a classical ballet tutu on a dressform. It is almost as if the dressform were preparing for a performance and only needs the slightest bit of wind to start doing pirouettes across the room.

White classical tutus have always been favorites of mine. Watching a large corps of ballerinas performing in all white is breathtaking! I don’t know exactly which performance this particular tutu ended up in, but I am  certain that it was a lovely performance.

A Ballerina’s Dream In Pale Blue

This has to be one of my all time favorites! Something about this heavenly blue color gives me such a feeling of tranquility and peace. There is something regal about combining a soft blue like this with silvery trim.

Pretty In Pink

How lovely are the frosty pink embellishments on this classical tutu! Classical tutus that are created using the color pink always make me a bit nostalgic. Pink reminds me of youth and innocence and ballet dreams that all young girls dream. Even though my girlhood days are far behind me, I can still dream about wearing a tutu like this. With pink tights and satin pointe shoes to match this classical tutu could make this older woman feel like a young girl again. The fountain of  youth in tulle!

How Do They Do It?

Dancers and dance lovers of all ages have always been enthralled by the artistic beauty of a professionally made classical tutu. I, in particular, really marvel at the patience it must take to measure the client correctly, shop for fabric, hand-pleat layer after layer of tulle, and painstakingly apply all of those tiny trims and embellishments. We are fortunate to have people in this world with the skill, creativity, and patience needed to produce even one custom made costume.
